Old-Fashioned Sweet Potato Pie Recipe
It’s almost time for those big food-eating holidays again, and if you get roped into a potluck or two, you can impress your friends with this yummy soul food specialty.

Make your own favorite pie crust or get a nice frozen organic one at your local grocery. Making the crust is the hard part – this is easy and takes less than an hour!
Old-Fashioned Style Sweet Potato Pie
(Makes 2 Pies)
Spices:
1/2 clove nutmeg
1/2 (5 cm) cinnamon stick
1 tsp cloves
1 tsp orange peel
Grind all spices in a mortar-pestle til smooth.
Filling:
1 1/4 cup mashed unpeeled sweet potato
1 cup maple sugar
1 can evaporated milk
3 tbsp whole wheat flour
1 stick melted butter
1 egg
juice of 1/2 lemon
1/2 tsp salt
seeds of 1 vanilla bean pod
spices (see above)
Beat/puree all ingredients until smooth in a large bowl.
Pour into 2 prepared 9-inch pie shells.
Bake at 325 for 40-45 mins.
Serve hot!
