Out of the Bars, Into the Streets: Marching Against Prop 8
Last night i marched from San Francisco’s City Hall down Market Street and into the Castro district, with a group of people gathered in opposition to Prop 8, the discriminatory anti-gay-marriage law just narrowly passed.
As we reached the Castro, people began chanting, “Out of the bars, into the streets,” just as the lenient sentencing of Harvey Milk’s assassin had driven people to do in the 1970’s. I personally felt the hair on my forearms stand on end from the raw emotional current pulsing through the crowd. I saw several people moved to tears.
Looking forward to the repeal of this discriminatory law and the freedom for all people to marry the one they love.
